a) DIY - Design and spray your own personal helmet

You don't have to pay a few hundred dollars to get your helmet customized!
Step 1 - Design
Download the free OBR helmet design template and work on the design that you like. The template offers a full 360 degree view of your helmet, so you can draw and color the printouts before you work on your helmet! This ensures that the helmet turns out exactly like what you have drawn!
Step 2 - Preparation.
The helmet's factory finish is sanded with 600 grit wet or with a Scotchbrite pad. If there are any small nicks or scuffs, these may require a bit of fill. Avoid sanding out anything but the smallest paint nicks on a helmet - flat spots will result. All areas that aren't to be painted are taped off and masked. Use quality masking tape, from an autobody shop supplier.
Steph 3 - Determine the center line and side lines.
Use strips of tape to mark out the areas and visually inspect the markings to confirm that they matched closely in arc and placement. (Asymetrical designs do not require this step.)
Step 4 - Spraying
After a final wipe-down with degreaser and antistat, a very light pass of the airbrush is made over the tape to mark the lines without creating a discernable paint edge. Then the tape is removed for good. The rest of the design is painted onto the helmet. During spraying on of design, allow for proper drying of paint between coats. Finish off helmet with several layers of clear lacquer.
Step 5 - Polishing
When the entire design is completed, wet sand helmet with 800 or 1000 grit till helmet is surface is completely smooth. Use a rubbing compound to bring out the shine of your completed paint job!
